Stay from 9th to 13th January 2023
Maiensäss Städeli was a wonderful way to experience the 'snow line' of the Alps high above the foothills. My Swiss partner (who grew up in an area near to Furna) and I wanted to stay in a hut which still held on to the past and Maiensäss Städeli provided exactly what we wanted for our holiday. It was my first time holidaying in the Swiss Alps and I found the hut is positioned in the ideal spot for spectacular views of the Swiss mountains.
We stayed at the hut in early January and lucky for us the snow arrived just in time for our stay. We enjoyed snow trekking at our leisure around the hut and there is a good track nearby for further exploration of the area. Even if it had not snowed, hiking would still have been pleasurable and the hut provided comfortable shelter and plenty to do. The wood chopping was good fun and the wood provided great fuel for the oven and stove to warm the hut for many hours. If you can speak Swiss-German or German there were plenty of books and games to play but most of my time was spent enjoying the hut's provisions, especially the hot tub. The hut has everything you could need for cooking and drinking and the cellar has a good stock of a variety of food and drink. We wanted to get back to basics but the owner has provided enough modern touches like solar panelled electricity and a modern kitchen to enable you to have time to relax and enjoy your stay.
A key part of us being able to enjoy our stay was the owner, Elisabeth, who was helpful before and during our stay. Another key factor in enabling us to have a wonderful stay at Maiensäss Städeli was the hard work and dedication of Elisabeth and her helpers. They have ensured a traditional Swiss hut and the local area can continue to be enjoyed as a home for others. We hope to return to Maiensäss Städeli at some point in the near future.
